Overview

We provide AC gear-driven drawworks for onshore and offshore applications. Models are available in single-speed or three-speed designs with up to 6,000-hp ratings. We also provide technically advanced, gear-driven, active-heave-compensated drawworks systems rated up to 11,200 hp that are capable of compensating for movements on large floaters and drillships.

LDW AC gear-driven drawworks

LDW drawworks have technically advanced features to increase drilling performance, safety, and reliability. The combination of cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency with small footprints, less weight, and reduced noise and vibration adds to the advantages of these solid machines.

UltraHoist offshore drawworks

UltraHoist offshore drawworks deliver efficient hoisting and lowering during drilling, tripping, and handling operations. All UltraHoist drawworks are AC and gear-driven. The three-speed version provides operational flexibility, both at high speeds and high loads. UltraHoist drawworks are simpler to use and integrate many safety features that are not currently offered by other models. 

UltraHoist AHC offshore drawworks

UltraHoist active-heave-compensated (AHC) drawworks provide safe and efficient hoisting and lowering during traditional drilling, tripping, and handling operations, as well as accurate heave compensation during drilling or landing of the BOP to the sea floor. All UltraHoist AHC drawworks are gear-driven and available in three-speed or single-speed versions, with power input from 4,500 hp to 9,000 hp and a load handling capacity of up to 1,250 tonUS.

  • Offered in 500,000-lbf/550,000-lbf, 750,000-lbf, 1,000,000-lbf, 1,500,000-lbf, and 2,000,000-lbf hook load models
  • Feature an engineered braking system for increased safety
  • Achieve higher operational speeds (all models) through the use of variable frequency drive (VFD) AC motors
  • Require fewer utilities for installation and fewer spare parts

UltraHoist offshore drawworks

  • Three-speed transmissions between AC motors and fixed-speed gearbox, providing unique, fast line speed and pull characteristics
  • Lebus grooved drum for 1 1/2-in (or 1 5/8-in) drill line, complete with kickback rollers and easily removable guards
  • Easily removable cable anchor
  • Control system that interfaces with the Zone Management System via the OnTrack C-Net high-speed communications network, enabling communication with the programmable logic controllers (PLCs) of other systems, such as the anticollision system
  • Custom PLC software that ensures smooth and natural operation for the driller
  • Built-in, self-diagnostic functions with automatic warning system for service and overhaul of main components
  • Onboard hydraulic power unit (HPU) systems for brakes and lubrication systems, fitted with dual pumps and motors
  • Remote-operated fast shift mechanism in the gearbox to avoid gear-shift problems and load-dropping
  • Internal gearboxes that use a keyless design to avoid stress configurations
  • Fail-safe braking system comprising two brake discs, one on each side of the drum, and a single caliper with brake pads acting on each disc
  • Combined braking capacity of the emergency and park brakes equal to 200% of maximum line pull
  • Automatic brake monitoring system, including brake slip detection, drum creep detection, and drum response detection
  • Two separately fused emergency shutdown circuits
